Christmas’ Markets 2016
Shopping, tradition and Christmas atmosphere
Christmas and the so-loved Christmas Markets in Milan are coming. Christmas Markets mean the official start of the festive atmosphere that every year involves many people loving this tradition with great passion!
The traditional Christmas Market "Oh Bej! Oh Bej" begins on 7 December 2016 and goes on until 10 December 2016. The origins of this Milanese tradition come back to 1288 when, in honor of the patron of the city, Saint Ambrose, the fair took place in Piazza dei Mercanti; in 1886 the fair was then transferred in front of the Basilica di Sant'Ambrogio, and then after 120 years, in 2006, it was moved again in the area of the Castello Sforzesco, where it is still held nowadays. The name "Oh Bej! Oh Bej!", comes from the exclamations of joy showed by the children in Milan who accepted happily the gifts of Giannetto Castiglione, delegate of the Pope, in occasion of his entrance into the city in 1510 (the Lombard expression "Oh bej! Oh bej!" can be translated in "Oh beautiful!, Oh beautiful!").
This event brings together almost 400 exhibitors giving some atmosphere of the bygone days to the historical center of Milan. You can find here gift ideas, crafts, ornaments and gastronomy of every kind. Creations and unique pieces are accompanied by the performance of street artists...
