The exhibitions in Milan in this period are interesting and able to satisfy actually everyone’s aesthetic and artistic taste!

Are you curious to know which are the unmissable exhibitions in Milan in the next months?

1 - “Paul Klee and the Primitivism” at the Mudec - From September 2018 to January 2019

From September the 26th 2018 to January the 27th 2019 at the Mudec Museum in Milan arrives the exhibition “Paul Klee and the Primitivism”, an exhibition that wants to deal with artist’s work through an original perspective, including him inside the primitivism tendency in Europe at the beginning of the 20th century. A dialogue between Klee’s works and ancient objects, in a continuous and engaging game of recalls between present and past.

Primitivism is a tendency that, as grasped by the name, took its inspiration from the so-called primitive civilization, considered as a legendary Golden Age. In a world already projected to modernity, some European artists need to stop and to look backwards to the primitive art, so fascinating, faraway and made of authentic and genuine simplicity.

In this exhibition you’ll find a selection of oil, tempera and watercolour paintings and drawings of Klee, referring to ancient objects, ethnographic artefacts of Mudec’s collection, magazines and historic documents connected to Klee’s formation. It’s no coincidence that it’s held and organised at Mudec, the cultural museum per excellence in Milan!

2 - Carlo Carrà at Palazzo Reale - From October 2018 to February 2019

Also in 2018, Palazzo Reale confirmed itself as one of the biggest protagonists of the art exhibitions of excellence in Milan: in October it will host the renowned Italian Carlo Carrà.
This is the widest anthological exhibition ever realised about one of the biggest masters of the Italian artistic panorama of the 20th century. This exhibition retraces all the career of the Milanese artist, starting from the Divisionist period until the masterpieces of the Futurism and of the Metaphysics, from the paintings attributable to the so-called "valori plastici", until the landscapes and the still-lifes, not ignoring the original compositions of the 1930’s.

In this exhibition you can find everything that marks the metaphysic painter and there will be showed 130 works loaned from public and private collections. The purpose of the exhibition is to recreate the entire artistic path of the Master through his most significant works: from the initial divisionist proofs, to the Futuristic and Metaphysic ones, from the paintings to the landscapes and to the still-lifes attesting his return to reality.

This exhibition at Palazzo Reale of Milan will make you discover a new prominent figure of the Italian and European art, that took part in all the most important artistic tendencies of the period and today is considered one of the biggest artists of the 20th century.

3 - “Pablo Picasso and the myth” at Palazzo Reale -  From October 2018 to February 2019

Not only Carrà, but also Pablo Picasso: another great painter will be a protagonist in Piazza Duomo. Milan and Picasso, a relation lasting years: from 1953 to be precise, when the artist chose it as location for the exhibition of his Guernica, changing than location innumerable times until its return home in Spain, in 1981, where today is showed at the Reina Sofia in Madrid.

Probably due also to this strong sentimental bond, the Lombard county town celebrated the artist through the years with multiple retrospectives and exhibitions as the one in 2001, realised in collaboration with his heirs, or the important monographic show in 2012.

The exhibition is entitled “Picasso and the myth” and wants to retrace the use that Picasso made of the beastliness and of the mythological repertoire. Among his main references: fauns, centaurs and minotaurs running into the violence of war, corrida, uncontrolled fantasy and heroism.

The Picasso exhibition in Milan is composed of 5 sections, with around 350 works of the greatest masterpieces of the Picasso Museum, compared to important antiques and to works referring to the canons of classical beauty. The exhibition is a show allowing to catch all the reference marks that in the art of this great artist of the 20th century create a bond with European classical culture, in an interesting dialogue between ancient and new, between tradition and innovation.

4 - “The art of Banksy - A visual protest” at the Mudec - From November 2018 to April 2019

For the first time a civic museum will host an exhibition dedicated to the mysterious artist which identity, apart from some suppositions, remains till today officially anonymous.

About Banksy is known that he was born and raised in Bristol and that probably, according to a sequence of coincidences and clues, could be Robert Del Naja, singer of the group Massive Attack, but nothing is sure.

Known most of all for his ironic and satiric works, however Banksy has always chosen to take position on important political and social issues, facing important matters and reporting situations ranging from war atrocity to refugees emergency, to underage labour and animal abuse.

In order to communicate his messages Bansky used a wide range of subjects as monkeys, mice (his celebrate rats), cats, but also children, policemen and members of the royal family.

The exhibition in Milan entitled “The art of Banksy - A visual protest”, is absolutely not to be missed. Split in 4 sections, it will host around 70 works among paintings, objects, prints, sculptures, but also photographs and videos of some wall paintings realised around the world.

Materials illustrating artist’s work with a retrospective look are furnishing visitors with the key for Banksy’s work through an academic and unusual itinerary.

Get prepared because in November in Milan people will speak of little else!
