People visiting Milan have not to miss the Cenacolo Vinciano, the refectory of the Dominican convent joined with the church of Santa Maria delle Grazie, which houses one of the most famous works in the world: The Last Supper by Leonardo da Vinci.

This work is a fresco painted between 1494 and 1498, commissioned by the Duke of Milan, Ludovico il Moro.

Subject is the Last Supper of Jesus, portrayed in the centre, together with the Apostles, when He announces that will be betrayed: it is possible to see the different emotions on the faces of the Apostles showing their overwrought souls by the accusations of Jesus.

The painting is set by Leonardo as a real environment prospective extension. Being a work lasting many years, Leonardo chose not to work on the fresh plaster, which dries very fast, but he used a totally innovative technique realizing the fresco on a dry wall so as to lehghten the drying time allowing possible subsequent changes.

The Last Supper can be admired by booking by phone from Monday to Saturday from 8.00 a.m. to 6.30 p.m. or by purchaising the online ticket via the official website.

• Last admission 6.45 p.m.
• Maximum 25 persons every 15 minutes.
• Closed on Mondays, January 1st, May 1st, December 25th.
