Milan Fashion Week 2021 in Digital Version
Fashion shows land on the Internet
Milan Fashion Week is just around the corner, although this year, due to the continuing Covid-19 pandemic, the entire event will be held digitally.
Last year some fashion houses had already decided to forego the in-person show in favour of an online event, thus inaugurating the phygital season, a season characterised by online events alongside in-person events.
At Vip Limousine Milan we have followed this evolution with great curiosity, because we have always been used to accompanying our Clients to numerous fashion shows held in different locations, private parties, meetings and, only late in the evening, back to the hotel.
Although many things will be different this year, Milan does not give up on fashion shows, an event that is awaited every year by the whole world, not only by insiders, but also by the curious and fashion addicted.
Updates from the National Chamber for Italian Fashion in Milan
The men's fashion shows ended a few weeks ago and, as always, we are getting ready to enjoy the women's fashion shows. From 23 February to 1 March, the world's greatest designers and fashion houses will take turns with their strictly digital fashion shows.
After years of parties, in-person shows, private parties and side events, Milan is preparing to experience its first fashion shows in a completely digital version. We had already had a taste of it at last year's fashion weeks, events that saw the union of the physical and digital (phygital) worlds.
In spite of the prevailing atmosphere, however, the designers are not giving up and want to show the fashion world and beyond how they imagine next autumn, putting all their experience into play.
The calendar of events has now been published by the Milan Fashion Chamber and, looking through the various names that will take part in Milan Fashion Week, the absence of a big name is striking: Versace. Donatella Versace herself has justified this absence, stating that the advantage of the digital event is that it can be held when one prefers to show one's own collection, thus adapting the event to one's needs and not the other way around.
Although Versace remains a proud member of the National Chamber for Italian Fashion, the fashion house has decided to show a few days after the event closes, on 5 March to be precise.
Among the names that stand out in the programme are Salvatore Ferragamo, Valentino, Dolce & Gabbana, Armani, Prada, Missoni, Fendi, Tod's and Moschino, to name but a few.
But what will this year's shows be like? While there is great secrecy about the collections, we do know where they will be broadcast. For the occasion, the Fashion Chamber has created a special platform on which the big brands will be shown one after the other on their social channels. So, let's make way for the mass media that have become an integral part of our lives in recent years.
Even if the digital event has been organised in the best possible way, the hope of everyone, including the designers, is to return soon to the fashion shows in presence, because nothing can replace the warmth of the public, the emotions of private events and the contacts that, in those venues, are made with interested people.
While we wait to return to the classic fashion shows, here are some figures on the upcoming Milan Fashion Week:
- 61 fashion shows;
- 57 presentations, of which 15 will be physical and 42 digital, many by appointment;
- 6 events;
- 124 appointments in all.
In addition, there will be numerous virtual meetings between designers and buyers from all over the world.
