Open culture: explore the worldwide art with virtual tours
The culture does not stop, even with the Coronavirus disease!
Since weeks we have been forced to deal with the Coronavirus emergency, a disease that is greatly affecting our lives. Although some are working from home and filling their days, many are still looking for new activities to do from home in order to spend the best way possible this confinement.
The activities that are most popular are cooking and training: socials are now flooded with training videos, recipes and photos of the latest dessert. But Italy is not only that.
Italy is not just food, Itay is beauty and culture. Here are some small tips from Vip Limousine Milan on how to spend the quarantine in the best possible way: rediscovering the beauty of our country!
In these weeks there are many cultural initiatives that have followed one another on the Web to keep company with all those who are forced to stay at home. Many singers, on their Facebook pages, have improvised small concerts to cheer their fans and we are sure that these beautiful initiatives will continue to proliferate on the web.
Unfortunately, however, these social concerts are not always planned and communicated well in advance and the risk of losing them is always lurking. For this reason we want to point out some very interesting appointments that you can follow while sitting comfortably on your couch, but flying with your mind.
Virtually visiting the Duomo of Milan
Let's start from Milan, the beautiful Milan that has hosted the offices of Vip Limousine Milan for years. The main symbol of this city is the Duomo: beautiful, imposing, elegant and meeting place of entire generations.
Unfortunately, however, not everyone has had the pleasure of walking down its aisle or admiring Milan from the top of its spires. The symbol of the city could not close in silence waiting for better times, but it wants to remain close to its fellow citizens and tell them its story.
Starting from March 30, 2020 every Monday, small virtual tours are published on the website of the Duomo of Milan and on the official social channels that will accompany you to discover (or rediscover) the wonders of the Duomo. This initiative will last for ten weeks and the videos will be published every Monday at 3pm.
The videos will cover various themes related to the Duomo:
- Sundial;
- Tintoretto;
- Sacristies;
- Glass art;
- Bell towers and bells;
- Paliotto of San Carlo;
- War damage;
- Gilding of the famous Madonnina;
- Cemetery Gallery;
- Dictionary of Terraces.
These virtual tours are just a taste of what you can personally admire as soon as the Coronavirus emergency is finally back!
FAI - National Trust of Italy
Although the classic appointment with the FAI (Fondo Ambiente Italiano) days in spring has been postponed, the commitment of this foundation does not stop.
The promotion and protection of Italy's artistic and cultural heritage is extremely important to them. In order to continue with their activities and to keep the Italians (and not only!) company and cheer them up at home because of COVID-19, FAI has decided to virtually open the doors of its assets and take them directly to homes all over the world.
On the FAI social pages are published these videos and virtual tours that, in the company of the FAI executive vice-president and the foundation staff, will allow you to walk through majestic gardens, discover ancient noble residences and enjoy the beauty that has always hovered in Italy.
The project, known as #ItaliaMiManchi (Italy I miss you), wants to bring citizens closer to Italian beauty, a beauty too often ignored or taken for granted. Without leaving home you will be able to live unique emotions and, maybe, mark all the places that, as soon as possible, you will want to visit in person!
Among the many FAI assets, there are many in Milan or nearby such as Palazzina Appiani (Milan, Parco Sempione), Villa Necchi Campiglio (Milan), Villa del Balbianello (Como), Villa Della Porta Bozzolo (Varese, near Lake Maggiore) and Villa and Collezione Panza (Varese).
You will be able to visit these and many other properties as soon as possible and, maybe, you will be able to go there with one of our luxury cars and private driver: a cultural journey in the Italian beauty without any worries!
Virtual tours of the world's famous museums
Although museums around the world are closed because of the Coronavirus emergency, those responsible for them do not want to deprive humanity of the beauty they preserve. For this reason, many museums have decided to offer culture lovers guided virtual tours through their rooms: all without leaving home!
Everyone, at least once in their lives, has wanted to go to Paris and wander the long corridors of the Louvre. The Parisian museum has made several themed tours available to its users, allowing them to explore specific historical periods. The most clicked route? Obviously the one dedicated to the Italian Renaissance in which two important paintings stand out: the Mona Lisa and the Virgin of the Rocks.
When it comes to history, one cannot ignore the importance of the Archaeological Museum in Athens or the British Museum in London. In both cases, thanks to the routes specially designed for users, you can spend hours discovering not only Greek art, but finds from all over the world and from every culture.
These great museums are flanked by many others such as the Prado in Madrid, the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam, the Guggenheim and the MET in New York, up to the impressive Hermitage in St. Petersburg. All the culture you want without queues at the entrance!
Italian museums at your disposal
Italian museums are no less and have decided to open their virtual doors united under the hashtag #museichiusimuseiaperti (museums closed, museums open). In Italy there are a lot of interesting museums and all of them have prepared thematic routes, videos and virtual tours that can be followed on their websites and official social pages.
Listing them all is impossible, so we will just mention some of them.
The Pinacoteca di Brera in Milan offers visits to the various collections, but also some interesting videos behind the scenes and the life of the museum. Also in Milan, the National Museum of Science and Technology Leonardo da Vinci tells on its Facebook page in daily appointments where they deal with topics such as science, technology, astronomy and describe all the assets contained in the museum.
Moving a few kilometers from Milan we find the famous Egyptian Museum of Turin, easily accessible from the city of Milan. On the museum's YouTube channel you can watch some videos in which the museum director comments on some of the largest Egyptian collection in the world. An expert in the field all for you!
Florence with its Uffizi Gallery and Rome, the historic capital of an imposing empire, are part of this long list. There are too many museums in Rome virtually open to list them all: from the Capitoline Museums to the Napoleonic Museum, from the Imperial Forum Museum to the famous Vatican Museums in the Vatican City.
All the Italian museums have tried to create interesting cultural itineraries not only to display their works on the web, but also to explore certain themes and analyze the most interesting exhibits of each collection.
Today guided tours, tomorrow the trips you have always dreamed of!
The cultural initiatives are, therefore, many and all aimed at keeping you company and bringing the beauty of the world directly into your home. Thanks to these virtual tours and videos you can spend a few carefree hours and take away at least part of the desire to visit those museums or villas that you have always dreamed of seeing, but which, for one reason or another, you have always had to give up.
We at Vip Limousine Milan know very well that following one of these tours will not be like visiting these places in person, but right now they are a great trick to spend a few hours of your days.
From these videos you can take a cue and draw up a ranking of what you want to visit and discover as soon as possible. You can then set some deadlines and decide, for example, that the places and museums closest to you will visit the first weekend at your disposal, while all the others will have to wait for the classic summer holidays.
Our journeys are only postponed to better times, but sooner or later we will return to bite the road and sail the seas to discover the many wonders that the world offers us. In that moment Vip Limousine Milan will be at your side with its luxury cars and, thanks to our travel assistance, we can help you in planning your excursions and appointments.
