Tour of Piedmont, Italy by luxury car with driver: gilded Autumn
Autumn, the season of colors and of the flavors of Piedmont
The months of October and November, well into autumn, gift fantastic landscapes and flavors to try, which we propose in our Tour of Piedmont by luxury car with driver in Piedmont, Italy, rich with impactful experiences.
Langhe, Monferrato, and Roero are the chosen areas, to be reached in succession along the sloping Piedmont hills: from the most gently sloping Monferrini hills to the Langaroli jugs in which grapes will slowly transform into the most precious of nectars: Barolo wine, universally considered “the prince of wines and the wine of princes.” This is a very extended part of Piedmont, meshed between the province of Cuneo, Asti, and Alessandria, among the million shades of the countryside.
Especially now, in Autumn, the landscape resembles a palette of reds and yellows, the air becomes crisp, filled with the scent of soon-to-be wine wafting from wine cellars and the scent of truffles emanating from the moist earth. The winery-filled landscape of Langhe, Monferrato, and Roero have recently been added to the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites as of 2012 and in virtue of this recognition, the opportunities to get to know from close-up the richness of these regions of Piedmont have grown rapidly.
Alba instantly comes to mind as the city that most represents gastronomic excellence and which, together with its viticulture, represents the cornerstone of social and economic life throughout the territory.
The land of Barolo, the prince of wines
The comunes of Langa del Barolo, of La Morra a Barolo, from Castiglione Faletto to Serralunga d’Alba, offer the unique opportunity to visit antique wine cellars and the traditional sites of production of Barolo wine, which is produced from the cultivation of Nebbiolo, the wine variety that requires the latest harvest so that in its final phase of maturation its fruits may take in just the right amount of humidity from the fog which forms during this period of the year among the rolling hills.
From here, wine-making begins, which in these regions, is a veritable art form which slowly transforms wine into a product of great international prestige.
From the lands of Barolo, tracing its wonderful scenery, to rolling hills christened with bell towers and castles, every point of interest is easily reachable using our beautiful cars or with one of our monovolume Mercedes or our luxury buses with knowledgeable drivers as excellent as the wines to be tasted in Grinzane Cavour, whose castle is the home of the first regional wine shop of Piedmont. Grizane Caour is synonymous with the Piedmont viticulture history, previously belonging to Cont Camillo Benso, a statesman that personally curated experimentation on the quality of the most famous red wines.
The hill of Barbaresco, where the Langhe territory is cut through by the Tanaro River, is another important selected area from the namesake of a great Italian red wine: the Barbaresco. It also comes from the Nebbiolo grapes, and like the Barolo wine, it is considered an excellent aged wine.
The sparkling wine of Asti
If the Langhe territory is home to the riches and prestige of the production of the best red wines, the Canelli territory represents, with the Asti sparkling wine, the sparkling wine region of excellence, with its steep slopes cultivated with the White Moscato grape which is curated with extreme care. The viticulture began in the mid 1800s, and among the most evocative places of the tradition and culture of viticulre is the small village of Calosso, situated among the highlands among priceless jewels of architecture from the production of wine: wine cellars in particular, called “crutin,” are dug out from rock and covered in bricks, and filled with authentic gastronomic treasures.

In the long list of viticulture production in this area, we cannot forget to cite the Barbera, whose most notable production takes place in the area of Alto Monferrato. Nizza Monferrato is among the most important centers in which the Barbera wine has been cultivated for more than 500 years, and which represented the expression of a centuries-old wine-making culture.
Il Monferrato degli Infernot
Among the provinces of Asti and Alessandria and the hills of Basso Monferrato, there are great viticulture landscapes recognized by UNESCO, thanks to the ubiquitous use of the Pietra da Cantoni, a sandstone which is only found in this area. The Cantoni Stone, the extraction of which has not occurred for several decades now, is the most ubiquitous material for the rural architecture of the area, and most importantly, the “infernot” or the hypogea (underground temples or tombs) that gave rise to the official recognition by UNESCO.
The “infernot” or hypogea, carved out from the deepest recesses, were carved by hand for the best preservation of wine production of the farming villages. The villages carved these spaces with a profound antique knowledge such that these sites are fortunately still perfectly preserved for us today to be admired in all their splendor.
